Visions of the Spring to Come
The winter hangs on here, snow and ice challenging movement by foot and vehicle. Melting temperatures are promised. For those of us used to spending or needing to spend a great deal of time outdoors, the weather can easily affect one’s frame of mind. Visions, however, of what is to come sustain the gardener.
On March 4, I gave a talk to master gardeners in a town surrounded by acres and acres of snow-covered frozen farm fields. As participants walked in the door, we were to vote on our favorite season based on its flowers. To no one’s surprise, Spring was the winner.
Here are a few photos of spring gardens. You will see flowering trees, shrubs, perennials and bulbs. I took these photos of our gardens in April. As May arrives, some trees complete flowering and others start and alliums begin to bloom. I hope to be taking spring 2019 photos soon.
